IsoDri is more than just an outer shell that resists water penetration and absorption. It is a complete system of components (outer shell, moisture barrier, thermal barrier and wristlets) that works together to reduce the water in your turnout gear and the dangers that water presents.

Thermal liners on conventional turnout pants have a tendency to absorb water from fireground activities at the bottom of the leg and migrate upward, sometimes even beyond the knees. This can make the garment heavy and uncomfortable, contribute to stress during firefighting activities and require more drying time. Gravity of the excess weight can also pull the hems of the pants down, causing contact with ground surfaces. This can contribute to premature wear at the cuffs. It is also the number one cause of seat and crotch seam failure on turnout pants. Outer shell is treated with Te on® F-PPE to reduce moisture intake from outside sources such as hose water and rain. Features: • Less water on the inside means your gear will be lighter. • Gear dries faster between runs as it will absorb less water. W.L. Gore CROSSTECHBlack, CROSSTECH®3-Layer or RT7100™ moisture barrier allows body heat, in the form of vapor, to escape, but keeps liquid out. V-Fit™ takes the best technology from combat and professional sports clothing and applies it to bunker gear. The result is the optimum balance between comfort, mobility, and protection. -Force Turnout Gear

Center Cut represents another breakthrough in the orientation of the internal LION turnout components. Like all isodri ® systems, this one picks up very little weight from water and dries in a flash. This combination system places a tough woven layer of water-resistant Nomex ® chambray between the shell and the moisture barrier and a quilted composite of Glide™ face cloth and Teflon ® F-finished apertured Nomex ® E-89™ (AraFlo ® ) on the other side of the moisture barrier (next to the wearer). This unique system improves the thermal properties (TPP) of the entire ensemble, while delivering outstanding THL values. Only available with Fusion™ or PBI ® Matrix outer shells. This high-tech firefighter turnout liner delivers very high THL values and reduces the risk of water-related burn injuries. The Glide™ face cloth wicks perspiration quickly, but the entire system carries less water and dries more rapidly than any other traditionally-oriented concept. Uses two layers of spunlace and a low-friction face cloth. However, both the 2.3 oz/yd2 E-89™ and the 1.5 oz/yd2 apertured AraFlo ® layers are finished by DuPont™ with Teflon ® F high-performance water resistance. NFPA 1981 & 1982 Update Summary

The NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), with the help of manufacturers and users alike, works to provide standards aimed at increasing the protection and safety of the men and women who serve this nation as our first responders. We at MSA work diligently in the quest for that very same thing. Since 1986 the NFPA has released updates to these standards every five years, intended to minimize the potential dangers of fire and other risks. This site is intended to provide detail on the latest developments in the 2018 update to the 1981 and 1982 standards which are scheduled to be published in November of 2017. Listed below are the changes associated with the 1981 & 1982 NFPA 2018 edition standard that are likely to have the most impact on SCBA design and performance Design requirements will be added to require two distinct actions for disconnection prior to withdrawal of the regulator from the facepiece. Where a double-release mechanism is utilized, actuation of a single-release mechanism shall not cause disconnection of the regulator. Performance requirements will be added to evaluate the strength of interface between the facepiece and regulator. The regulator must withstand a 250 N (56 lbf) load, applied in 5 directions, without disconnection or partial disconnection of the regulator interface from the facepiece. Design requirements will be added to specify SCBA data logging for the following events: Initial activation pressure, pressure when HUD deactivates, cylinder pressure during use, and transmission of visual information signals (HUD). SCBA pressure data logging intervals will not exceed 30 seconds. SCBA shall retain a minimum of 36 hours of data before data points are overwritten. The SCBA wearer’s breathing rate in liters per minute shall be reported at least every 30 seconds (this information is post processed after use, not available real time since cylinder duration must be entered by user to produce this data). Design requirements will be added to require interoperability between different SCBA manufacturers’ EBSS systems. The design requirements will specify a common operating pressure range. Furthermore, the design requirements will specify common male and female couplings. It should be noted that this coupling design does not match MSA’s current EBSS coupling and accordingly this will not be backwardly compatible with existing MSA EBSS systems without conversion and associated approval efforts. If you currently have EBSS installed on your 2013 edition MSAG1 SCBA and would like to upgrade to the 2018 standard modifications will be needed to your buddy breathing system. Two Distinct Actions Required to Remove Regulator Facepiece Regulator Connection Strength Test Pneumatic Data Logging for SCBA Specific Events Interoperability Between all Manufacturers’ EBSS Systems The 2013 edition of NFPA 1982 instituted a standard PASS alarm sound for all PASS devices. This was aimed a improving firefighter safety and interoperability on the fire ground. Following the release of this new sound pattern the NFPA Committee began hearing comments from firefighters that the new standard alarm sound was harder to hear than older versions. To answer the demands of the fire service a more effective sound pattern has since been identified and incorporated into a Tentative Interim Agreement. The 2018 Edition standard will add the following tests for PASS systems that include radio functionality (telemetry): Multipath Test: Determines whether the RF PASS system will operate in an RF environment having multipath reflections as characterized in a reverberation chamber. Multi-Hop RF Test: Determines whether the RF PASS system will operate in an RF environment having mulitpath reflections as characterized in a reverberation chamber. Pass System Radio (Telemetry) Functionality Tests Update to Common PASS Alarms 1981 1982
